Kai Havertz is reportedly going to force a move through from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea. The German midfielder wants to join the South London club as it looks like there aren't too many others who are willing to match his price tag. There are a few questions about how much Leverkusen want for him. They are holding out for a fee over 100 million euros, Chelsea however would be willing to pay only upto 70 million euros. So the clubs might agree for a fee in between these sums. The key to this is that Chelsea may pay quite a lot of money this summer probably in add-ons and clauses or bonuses and all those kinds of stuff which could extend the deal over to next summer as well. It does look like Chelsea might go on such a splurge when you include the deals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech and the former one finalised during the lockdown periods when clubs are supposedly not making much income. On top of this Fairplay regulations are being looked at especially in Manchester City's case. So Chelsea definitely wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of that. If they can offset some of this money to the next season it may actually work in their favor. So whether Havertz actually makes the move will depend on the fee. As Leverkusen wont have Champions League football next season, he might make the switch to play in Champions League. So the move may not materialize if Chelsea fail to get a Champions League berth.

The question that remains is whether Chelsea need him. When you look at the squad they have there's ample depth and quality in their midfield and they're doing well enough to get into the top four and potentially challenge for the title next season. Fans of the club might be happy with Mason Mount who plays in a similar role as Havertz, but Havertz might provide a lot more in terms of attacking returns.

Even though they have depth in midfield, Chelsea would be looking to add more quality to their first team. They have always shown interest signing young talents and developing them into World class players, with the likes of Hazard,Courtois etc being testaments of the same. So the move is likely to be a good one for Chelsea if it goes through
